Hello there. My name is Marco Vega. I am currently a Senior at Foshay Learning Center. I am an NAI scholar, and I am in the Foshay high school music department, which consists of a symphonic orchestra, marching band, holiday wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, and jazz combo. I am a part of Foshay's MESA team. Lastly, I am in the Foshay Academy of Technology.
The NAI program is 7 year rigorous program from Grade 6 through grade 12. If students meet all the requirements, such as a GPA of 2.75 or higher, good behavior, etc, students will qualify for a financial package for a four year college that covers everything. If a student is in this program, he/she is privileged over other students who are not in the program, but it does come with a cost. Students go to USC for their morning classes, and are expected to attend extra classes on Saturdays and still maintain a the required GPA
or higher.
The technology academy is a 3 year program from grades 10-12 where students are introduced into the vastly extensive and complex world of computers. Students not only learn to make websites, program, etc, they also learn to make resumes, business cards, portfolios, and learn proper etiquette during interviews. So the technology academy is a win-win. We learn about technology, and about the real world.
MESA is a math and science program where students from other schools come together and compete in making various objects that have to complete an objective such as stay in motion for 5 meters, or keep rotating and hit a few targets.
I feel very lucky to have the privilege to be a part of all these programs and that is what makes me stand out from the average student.
